Our latest project, the Super E Surrey, a four wheel two person bike.
Built by Hix Cycles with numerous modifications and upgrades it is an exceptionally smooth, stable, and easy ride. For anyone that likes to ride side by side this is a brilliant fun experience. None of the terrible twitchy steering you often encounter on Tandem Trikes.
The stock surrey bike included a well-engineered powder coated steel chases, double rear swingarm and upper frame. it also has a rack and pinion steering with four heavy duty motorcycle wheels.
Two independent Sturmey Archer 3 speed hubs built into the drivetrain give each rider the ability to select the gear of their choice at any time.
Enhancements include the fitting of two pedal assist Bafang mid drive 500w motors, powered by 2 48 volt batteries. Each rider has their own motor and control system enabling them to independently choose, at the touch of a button, from nine levels of pedal assist.
With an eye to safety, we have added rear indicators with a remote control located on the steering wheel. Two rear lights with a multi choice of modes ensure we are clearly visible to other road users. While on the front 2 Moon Meteor Storm headlights ensure we will be able to see our way even on the darkest country roads.
The Surrey roof has proved to be a real bonus, keeping us cool in this Summer's record heatwaves and making cycling a real pleasure. The roof supports additionally provide ideal positioning for mirrors, lights, and a secure phone holder for onboard navigation.
Special thanks for support with this project are due to:
Stuart Bollons for research and sourcing of the Surrey and other components.
Scott Butler from S R Electromatics for electrical work.
Geoff Fitzjohn for turned parts.
Keith Warrington - Graphics
Electrostatic Magic for powder coating.
Liz Cooke - test pilot.
